A Day in the life of William Shakespeare

Have you ever wondered how the great bard, William Shakespeare would spend a day in Canberra? The day begins with a strong cup of English Breakfast tea of course and a meandering stroll to Lennox Gardens. Here, Shakespeare finds himself wandering up the wide pedestrian boulevard to take in the majestic lake view - a much more serene view than the Thames or the river Avon. Shakespeare continues along through the Nara Peace Park and Beijing Gardens contemplating the art works and ideas for his next play.

After a while exploring the park, he stumbles across the Pop Inn, nestled in amongst the trees. He can scarcely believe his eyes, gazing upon a travelling wine bar. He thinks ‘…I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it…’ He takes a leisurely seat and ponders the menu - a cleansing local ale from Capital Brewing is his drink of choice. After taking some notes and gathering ideas for new characters and plots, he continues his stroll around the lake towards the National Portrait Gallery.

Here he comes across his own visage amongst the famous faces from the sixteenth century to today in their latest exhibition. After exploring the portraits, Shakespeare makes a visit to the Canberra Theatre, naturally, to watch the Bell Shakespeare Company’s performance of Hamlet. He concludes with a late-night sojourn to Smiths Alternative to discuss the performance with friends and divulge his latest play ideas.
